Provided by Equi-Shine Pellets, Equi-Shine Jump Start, Equi-Shine Ultimate, Equi-shine Granular or Equi-Shine Security:

Zinc Amino Acid Complex – fully organic form of Zinc. Helps with cell division and protein synthesis for skeletal growth and repair

Manganese Amino Acid Complex – fully organic form of Manganese. Helps with Chondroitin sulfate synthesis, which is important for the formation, maintenance and repair of joint cartilage. Also aids in bone matrix development and maintenance.

Glucosamine

  • The basic building block of all connective tissues, including cartilage, in all forms of life.
  • Glucosamine concentrations in blood and synovial samples collected from supplemented horses increased over time.
  • In a study by Catherine Whitehouse, M.S., a Kentucky Equine Research, she states, “Glucosamine supplementation decreased inflammation while supporting the growth of new cartilage in response to a joint insult in young, growing horses when the glucosamine was administered for 84 days prior to said insult.”

Chondroitin

  • Chondroitin sulfate is a major structural component of cartilage, bone, and tough connective tissues such as the whites of the eyes.
  • The pain-relieving effects of chondroitin are not as obvious as with glucosamine, although some observers report that horses on chondroitin only seem to move more “fluidly” overall.
  • Formal studies on chondroitin give mixed results, with its greatest benefit appearing to be the prevention of further cartilage breakdown.

Yucca Schidigera

  • Anti-inflammatory natural ingredients.
  • More oxygen in the blood stream.
  • Similar to MSM – in WI, MSM is not an approved feed additive for horses, hence using yucca in place of it.

So, why are all these ingredients important? Performance horses constantly battle low-grade joint inflammation caused by repeated maneuvers such as turning and stopping. This inflammation can be especially prominent in horses that work in very hard or deep ground on a daily basis.

Low levels of inflammation are part of the body’s normal healing process and typically the body can clear this inflammation on its own without the help of drugs. However, horses that are in intense training programs or competing multiple times per week may need help clearing the inflammation.

If a horse is not able to clear inflammation quick enough, important structures within the joint such as cartilage and synovial fluid will start to thin and break down. This is why many people lean on joint supplements; it’s an effort to rebuild components of the joint that are slowly deteriorating.
